High School Football-Week 5 in Review

A look at back at games I attended over the weekend.:

FRIDAY NIGHT: Harvey at Wickliffe. One of the more even matchups of the weekend. These are the bottom tier teams of the CVC Chagrin, or at least have been over the last few seasons. The pouring rain and thick mud definitely helped the Blue Devils against the swift Red Raiders. Still, Wickliffe might have won anyway. They've got a senior group that's been playing quite a bit over the last 3 years. For Harvey, a tough season continues. Defense and offensive line will have to step up in a big way for the Red Raiders to have any chance in their final five games. Coffee-to-Ward is a good connection, but Harvey will need more than that.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Walsh Jesuit at Lake Catholic. The easy thing to do would be to point to the fake field goal attempt and the two failed conversions and blame those for the 14-12 Cougars loss. I would say there were a couple of other things that contributed. One, the Warriors were able to pick up clutch first downs in the second half even though Lake Catholic's defense played well once again. Two, the Cougars had some confusion on some offensive plays that put the team in a hole. Two big games in a row loom for Lake Catholic-Benedictine this week and NDCL the following week.
